🖐 Your 5-Step Plan for Leaving Social Media

Use these 5 steps & the reflection questions below to make your plan for leaving any social media platform. For additional support, tune in to this episode of Off the Grid that explains the steps, or this playlist of interviews with folks who’ve left social media.

1. Decide that you’re going to leave & when
   • Reflection questions:
     • Why do I want to leave social media?
     • Do I need to consider my sales or marketing calendars as I plan my exit?
     • When is a good time for me & for my business to leave?
2. Announce your exit & share how people can stay in touch
   • Reflection questions:
     • What other marketing platforms will I use instead of social media?
     • How can my clients/customers/community keep in touch with me & learn about my offerings in the future?
     • How much time will my community need to learn that I’m leaving and follow me off social?
3. Request your data from the platform & archive it offline
   • Reflection questions:
     • What data have you shared on that social platform and will the platform let you request a copy of your data?
     • Is there anything else you want to capture or save from that platform?
     • Is there anything you want to delete or archive before you leave?
4. Change your bio, profile, story highlights, etc to share that you’re no longer on the platform & how to reach you
   • Reflection questions:
     • Will your profile stay online after you leave the platform or will you be taking it down when you leave?
     • If your profile stays up, how will people know you’re not active there when you’re gone?
     • What resources, links, or autoresponders do you want in place for anyone who comes across your profile in the future?
